Welcome to the new Java version of the Merlin Narrowboats' Boat Planner! This new version should make the facilities of the Boat Planner available to more users: It should work with the HotJava, Cyberdog, and Netscape Navigator 3+ (32 bit). Limited functionality is available in Internet Explorer 3+ (the Java implementation in IE is not fully compatible).
You may also download the Java Boat Planner to use offline on your home machine. As a result, current price information is not included in this version. The other notable difference is the load/save design option: As part of the Java security restrictions the Planner can not write files to your disk, so when you try and save a design you will be given a code. Re-entering that code will restore your design. You could store a list of designs in a file, or even email them to other people!
The Merlin Narrowboats'
Boat Planner is a tool to help you design a layout for your narrowboat.
It features many of the common components found in narrowboat
designs. However it is limited to a range of standard components,
and contains no intelligence concerning the practicalities of
plumbing, gas routing, weight distribution, and other factors.
Before finalising a design you should always talk to a competent
boat builder.
Whilst we have attempted to make the plans produced by the Boat Planner as realistic as possible, the design produced should not be taken as any guarantee of the practicality of a particular layout.
